Islamorada & Morehead City Fishing Report

This was a great week for LOW PROFILE fishing out of Morehead City, NC for Giant Bluefin. After a slow and frustrating start, the bite was very good for us this week. The action started on Wednesday with a real nice 98 inch fish. Feeling real good about where they were fishing at the end of the day on Wednesday, they headed back to the same area Thursday morning and quickly put an 80 inch fish in the boat. They made it a double, when then added a second 92 inch fish later in the afternoon. We were lucky to have Capt. Keith Burnet and his mate Joe Roberts on board for these two days and they brought us some of their normal good fortune. Back out on Friday, Thomas and Lenny were by themselves. The first bite on Friday was a single fish, which they boated and measured out at 82". They had another short bite, then later in the day they got the double header. With two fish on, 2 people on board, and the weather getting very sloppy, they settled in for the battle. They put a 92" fish in the boat, and had the other fish very close. Lenny estimated it at easily over 100". This is when our luck ran out, as a shark ripped through the 500 plus pound tuna and ended that battle. For the week, we boat 5 fish from 80 to 98 inches.

In Islamorada, we've had two cold fronts roll through this week. This is what we've needed here in the Florida Keys to get the fishing shifted into high gear. The water temperatures are finally beginning to cool off and sails are starting to push through more regularly. The water dipped from 79 to 75 degrees and this seems to have been exactly what the doctor ordered. With bait still very plentiful on the reef, the water cooling off, and the current ripping hard to the North East, the next couple weeks should offer some spectacular fishing as we approach the busy holiday season here in Islamorada.

Our boats are all off until December 26th when we will begin fishing again in North Carolina and Islamorada. LOW PROFILE will be back battling Giant Bluefin and both PRETTY WORK and THATS RIGHT will be fishing the reefs in Islamorada, Florida Keys. So, until next year, a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all, from the Over Under Adventures Crew.
