2007-08-26 - Overnight Tuna Bite On Fire
Just a real quick report as we get ready to head back offshore this afternoon. We've spent the last 3 nights in the canyon and the tuna bite is on fire. We've been catching 15-25 fish per night, with many others battled and eventually lost. All the action is in the canyons to the north of the Spencer, with the Lindenkohl, Carteret, and Toms all holding lots of nice sized yelllowfins. The troll bite for us has been slow, so we have been going right to the chunk, which has been producing just about all of our fish. The fish are averaging 60 pounds with some 80 pounders mixed in, along with some small big-eyes about 80 pounds. We have been anchoring in about 500 feet of water, allowing us to on many occasions hold the fish under the boat for 1-2 hours, while we hand feed them off the back of the boat. The action is about as good as it gets our there right now.
